We got some photos of the sunset but that's the only positive we can unfortunately take from the experience.Located on the ground floor of W New York – Union Square, Irvington offers a Mediterranean-influenced menu of New American classics highlighting fresh, locally-sourced ingredients from the neighboring Union Square Greenmarket. All in all I think we must have only spent 45 minutes there and i'm afraid that what could have been a really special evening of our New York trip was ruined. They made us feel very intimidated and in the end after the barman being so rude to us as well, we just decided to abandon our drinks and leave. Both were very rude when we did not act flattered by their advances, despite us being as polite as possible (and both having boyfriend's back at home!). My friend did not fully understand what he meant by this and also upon checking her change realised the he had overcharged us anyway.I'm not sure whether the barman thought he deserved the change from $100 bill for two $17 cocktails? His reaction leads me to believe that this was the case? After this incident we went out to the outside balcony area to try to enjoy the view as the sun went down and were approached by a couple of men within 5 minutes of standing there. Upon receiving our drinks and our change, my friend looked at what she had been given in order to work out how much to tip, at which point the barman lent over to my friend's ear and said, "and that's why I didn't bother to serve you" before walking off. My friend had been ignored at the bar and only after speaking up did she receive any acknowledgement whatsoever that she was waiting to be served, the barman simply said, "what?" and my friend placed our order. She informed me that the barman had been incredibly rude to her and that he had also over-charged for our drinks. Around 25 minutes later my friend returned with our drinks and was visibly upset. We decided to treat ourselves to cocktails and so my friend went to the bar while I grabbed a spot for us. Everyone in the bar we encountered was very drunk, which we thought was unusual seeing as it was relatively early on in the night. The music was incredibly loud and really just meant that everyone was shouting at one another, which was not conductive to a good atmosphere. ![]() The bar was busy, which is understandable given the great view of the skyline and the time we visited (around 7pm). Unfortunately it was memorable but for the wrong reasons and we left feeling very deflated and upset. ![]() Mr Purple was recommended by a friend before my trip to New York and so we decided to pay a visit to hopefully watch the sunset and enjoy a memorable evening.
